Lighthouse Beach Marine Debris Survey & Cleanup

SAT 24 OCT, Lighthouse Beach Ballina

Ballina Coastcare is teaming up with Richmond Landcare Inc. to host a survey and beach cleanup at Lighthouse Beach in Ballina.

Meet 10am at Lighthouse Beach.

Lighthouse Beach is at the mouth of the Richmond River where the original channel ran before the construction of the north wall and Shaws Bay in the late 1800s.

Volunteers while cleaning up the beach will also record data on the marine debris that is collected using the Tangaroa Blue AMDI ( Australian Marine Debris Initiative) methodology.

Everyone is welcome – families, young people, retirees, anyone who has a pride in our local beaches and want to be part of this important research while cleaning up the beach.

The Tweed-Byron Hope Spot extends from Tweed to Ballina and is an area of high marine biodiversity and is critical to the health of the ocean. In August and September 2026 a number of marine debris surveys/beach cleanups will be conducted by coastcare groups, Dolphin Research Australia, Coexist, Councils and other environmental NGOs from Fingal Bay in Tweed, through Brunwicks Heads, Byron Bay to Ballina.
🌿 Richmond RiverFest and Partners acknowledge and pays respects to the Elders and Custodians of Nyangbal Country and recognises their ongoing, deep connection to the lands and waters.
